ADVANCING years (although still young at heart) - and the prospect of yet another round of familiar christmas frivolities seemed to generate a feeling of foreboding and a desolate wave of 'deja vu.'
"It's not like it used to be?" Was a shared realisation, and the fast approaching celebrations left us both with listless trepidation and a whole compendium of dismay and reservation.
The kids had long since flown the nest! Experiencing the excitement and anticipation we once felt, when the countdown to the big occasion surfaced.
That warm glow and anticipation had long since evaporated and subsequently been replaced by both apathy and dread in equal proportions - not to mention the obligatory boredom that descends commencing with endless shopping trips to ensure the aforementioned 'kids' gifts have been considered, decided upon purchased and lovingly wrapped to perfection.
The mounting thoughts of copious helpings of James Bond re-runs, Sound of Music wailings for the umpteenth time and the traditional helping of the classic epic, Great Escape, appeared somewhat unattractive?
'The Great Escape?' - Now that's an idea! But where? Bermuda, Bahamas, Brisbane (Na!) What better destination than one conjuring up memories of past joys and contentment. Where indeed - Blackpool of course we voiced in perfect harmony. Lets do it!
